Clouds and showers continue, rain tonight, cold front to follow

Clouds, drizzle, and chilly temperatures are hanging on across the Tennessee Valley so far on this Thursday. This warm front is off to our south, but it will be migrating northward over the next several hours. Temperatures have warmed into the mid to upper 50s over most of our area, although 50s are now spreading northward into north Alabama. On the flip side of that, areas up near Highway 412 in middle Tennessee are still hanging on to the upper 30s at this hour.

Showers will increase in coverage through the rest of this afternoon into the evening as warmer air comes northward ahead of low pressure that rides along the frontal boundary. We will likely warm into the 50s over southern Tennessee, and north Alabama might have a shot at the lower 60s by evening before the front swings back through as a cold front. As it does that, showers and a few thunderstorms will move through overnight with scattered pockets of locally heavy rainfall. That may temporarily increase the flooding risk in isolated areas, but the more widespread steady areas of heavy rain have ended. The cold front moves through during the overnight, and we start our morning on Friday well down into the 30s. Some locations in middle Tennessee may even sneak down to the upper 20s. Clouds decrease with time through the day, allowing temperatures to warm into the mid to upper 40s, maybe close to 50 in a few spots.

Clouds increase again Friday evening as another disturbance rides through the flow. This disturbance has trended drier; so, we will remove the chance of showers or flurries for Friday night into Saturday morning. However, a second disturbance moves through Saturday night into Sunday morning. This one will have a little more umph; so, we expect a decent chance of rain showers to work back into the area Saturday night into early Sunday morning. That moves out for Sunday, and then we're back to sunshine and moderating temperatures heading into early next week.
