Big drop in temps tonight. More rain expected through the weekend.
What a nice little taste of a mild summer day today all across the Tennessee Valley! I had to make sure it was February 23rd, and I didn't sleep through spring! In fact, today's heat has broken the record high temperature at the North West Alabama Regional Airport in Muscle Shoals, Alabama! The sensor shot up to 86 this afternoon, breaking the 2012 record of 83°.

A simply gorgeous day across the region will wrap up and we will switch to a cooler weather pattern tonight, thanks to this cold front approaching the TN Valley. We had rain yesterday but the imminent frontal passage will actually be dry this evening. Winds already shift from the north by this evening. Don't get too comfortable though, because rain showers return Friday morning and continue through the weekend.
No thunderstorms are expected, just moderate rainfall, some showers heavier at times. The weekend won't be a washout either, there will be breaks from time to time. We are expecting a cold front to move through Monday, bringing with it showers and thunderstorms. We're watching for any severe weather signals, but right now it looks to be a sub-severe event. We'll keep you updated as this system evolves and gets closer.
Much colder temps expected tomorrow morning, starting off in the mid 40s. We'll only make it to the low to mid 50s Friday afternoon. The good news is, we rebound back to the low 70s by Monday. Even after Monday's cold front, we'll stay in the 60s for highs afterwards.
